Zishtein was born in Philadelphia to Ukrainian parents and moved to Moscow at the age of ten. Growing up between different cultures shaped her artistic language and her interest in identity, belonging and displacement.

Her work explores longing, desire and the performative nature of identity through observation and everyday theatre. Constant movement continues to inform her practice, which she recently developed through her studies at the Royal College of Art in London.
