Malvina Kang Hughes

“Painting is the only way I can express what words cannot.”

Malvina Kang Hughes is a Singaporean artist based in Santa Agnès, Ibiza. Her work is grounded in intuition, stillness, and the search for honesty, offering abstract compositions that emerge through meditation and improvisation. For Hughes, painting is less about representation and more about presence, a way to capture emotions, states of being, and the unseen rhythms of life.

Her artistic path began in ballet and creative writing, disciplines that shaped her sensitivity to rhythm, movement, and expression. When language began to feel limiting, painting became her primary medium, a space vast enough to hold what words could not. Each canvas arrives through surrender and practice, balancing luminosity and shadow, lightness and depth, and reflecting the complexities of the human condition.

Living and working in the Ibizan countryside, Hughes paints daily in close dialogue with her environment. Her works resist direct reference to place, yet carry the silence, space, and clarity of the island itself. Through abstraction, she invites viewers into open, contemplative encounters, moments where inner and outer landscapes meet.
