The artist used a single-colour silkscreen base and applied a wide-ranging mix of unique hand-poured colours to pull 53 distinct, one-of-a-kind prints.
Fibonacci Numbers are often referred to as the underlying “DNA” pattern of the natural world. Brookes has used these numbers to create a series of meticulously detailed works all derived from the same pattern so often seen in the creation of the natural world. The paintings and prints display a harmony and balance of proportion, containing an abundance of affects with a very limited means of production.
Former biologist Kelsey Brookes focuses on explosive, kaleidoscopic works that fuse his fascinations with microbiomes, Buddhist philosophy, exotic plant life, and human desire. His meticulous compositions include bright colours and repetitive patterns resembling abstract mandalas, psychedelic tessellations, and energetic fields. In a straightforward, humorous style, Brookes describes his work as “an unrefined and, some would say, unskilled mix of sex, comedy and animals, which is derived from a true passion for all three, except not necessarily all at the same time.”
Kelsey Brookes has long drawn inspiration from the island of Ibiza, where transformative experiences have left a lasting imprint on his artistic journey. The island holds a profound significance in both his work and career, making it especially exciting to witness his art return to Ibiza for this remarkable exhibition.
